My Podcast Setup for 2022

When I started podcasting (around 2008) the choice of equipment was rather limited, especially outside of a professional recording studio. Recording audio at home was still a relatively new prospect and the idea of a “Podcast” had only been around for a short time.

A few years before Adam Curry had started the Daily Source Code and then Apple updated iTunes around 2005 to include support for podcasts. After that, they started to gain momentum. After a few more years, they really blew up. Today, there’s many thousands of of them available covering a wide range of topics and catering to all manner of interests. It’s also a pretty big business for companies like Spotify, who’s $200 Million deal with Joe Rogan shook up the industry. Did they get their money’s worth? Maybe.

I won’t debate the ralative merits of Joe Rogan or the wisdom (or lack thereof) of Spotify. Not in this article anyway. Instead, I’m here to talk about my personal home audio recording setup for 2022. Besides, talking about gear and tech is way more fun anyway.

The history of my current main podcast, The Flickcast, is a long one. The first episode dropped on April 1, 2009. Back then the show had three hosts: Me, Matt Raub and Christina Warren. After some time both Christina and Matt left to go on to bigger and better things and I continued with a new co-host: Joe Dilworth.
